Microcore Innovation: Natural Egg Membrane-Derived Bioactive Peptides for Mammalian Cell Culture

At Microcore Research Labs India Pvt. Ltd., we have identified that natural egg membrane-derived peptide fractions may have potential as cell-growth, cell-viability and productivity-enhancing supplements in mammalian monoclonal antibody (mAb) production cultures.

Our preliminary in-vitro investigations indicate that specific peptide fractions derived from natural egg membrane may influence cellular responses associated with cell proliferation, survival, cellular propagation and production performance.

This innovation represents a potentially important new direction in growth-factor and cell-culture supplement research, particularly because the identification and characterization of specific bioactive peptide fractions may help us investigate their potential cellular receptors, signalling pathways and mechanisms of action.

The current development is at the preliminary in-vitro research stage. Further R&D is underway to:

  • Identify and characterize the active low-molecular-weight peptide fractions.
  • Determine their cellular targets and potential receptor interactions.
  • Investigate downstream signalling and cellular propagation mechanisms.
  • Evaluate their effects on mammalian cell growth, viability and metabolic robustness.
  • Assess their potential influence on monoclonal antibody productivity.
  • Establish dose-response relationships and optimal supplementation conditions.
  • Evaluate the impact on mAb quality attributes and product consistency.
  • Validate the findings through expanded in-vitro and subsequently appropriate advanced studies.

Microcore's approach is therefore focused not merely on increasing antibody titre, but on understanding whether naturally derived egg-membrane peptides can provide a biologically active platform for improving mammalian cell performance and identifying novel receptor-mediated mechanisms relevant to cell-growth and bioprocessing applications.

Microcore Innovation: Natural Egg Membrane-Derived Bioactive Peptides for Mammalian Cell Culture

Microcore’s innovation is not simply the use of egg membrane as a culture supplement; it is the identification and characterization of bioactive peptide fractions that may interact with specific cellular receptors and signalling pathways to support mammalian cell propagation, viability and bioproduct productivity.

Microcore Innovation: Natural Egg Membrane-Derived Bioactive Peptides for Mammalian Cell Culture

Microcore’s Natural Egg Membrane-Derived Bioactive Peptide platform represents a promising new approach in cell-growth and bioprocess research. Specific peptide fractions may support mammalian cell proliferation, viability, cellular propagation and productivity, with potential relevance to monoclonal antibody production. A key advantage of this innovation is the opportunity to identify specific cellular receptors and downstream signalling pathways responsible for these biological effects, potentially opening a new avenue for growth-factor and cell-culture supplement development.

The platform may ultimately provide a natural, scalable and potentially cost-effective complementary alternative to conventional growth-factor systems, while also enabling improved understanding of cell robustness and bioproduct productivity. The technology is currently at the preliminary in-vitro research stage, with further R&D focused on peptide characterization, receptor identification, mechanism-of-action studies, optimization and validation.

Key Advantages of Microcore’s Natural Egg Membrane-Derived Peptide Platform

Microcore’s Natural Egg Membrane-Derived Bioactive Peptide Platform offers a promising natural approach to mammalian cell-culture and bioprocessing research. Derived from natural egg membrane, specific peptide fractions may support cell proliferation, propagation, viability and cellular robustness, with the potential to enhance specific productivity (qP) and/or monoclonal antibody titre. The fractionation and characterization of low-molecular-weight peptides provide an opportunity to identify the active molecules, their potential cellular receptors and receptor-mediated mechanisms, as well as downstream signalling pathways associated with proliferation, survival, metabolism and cellular stress responses. These peptides may potentially function as complementary bioactive components alongside conventional growth-factor and cell-culture systems, rather than necessarily replacing established growth factor.

The platform also has potential significance for CHO-cell culture, monoclonal antibody production and broader mammalian-cell-based biomanufacturing applications. Importantly, Microcore’s development can evaluate not only cell growth and antibody titre but also specific productivity and critical quality attributes (CQAs) to determine whether productivity improvements occur without compromising product quality. Once the active peptide–receptor relationships and mechanisms of action are established, the technology could evolve into a broader platform technology for cell-growth and bioprocess optimization, with potential scalability, manufacturing and supply-chain advantages over certain conventional recombinant supplements. The technology remains at the preliminary in-vitro research stage, and further R&D, characterization and validation are in progress.
